On YNF Entertainment Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Three Day Millionaire, a new raucous black comedy heist film about English fishermen in Grimsby battling the odds, released by British director Jack Spring for American audiences.
Three Day Millionaire
This story about heroes from the working class who fight for a better life and dream of it recently opened to great success in the United Kingdom. It ran for eight weeks in theaters and sold out a lot of special engagement screenings.
After spending weeks at sea working for the last remaining trawler in Grimsby, Three Day Millionaire follows three friends as they return home for the ultimate three-day celebration. They realize, however, that they must save their company, their friends, and most importantly, their way of life when they discover that the owner of the business has not been paying the employees and plans to close the business permanently.
The three guys attempt to pull off the greatest heist Grimsby has ever seen with the assistance of an unexpected confidant. What could possibly go wrong?
Colm Meaney (Con Air, Star Trek), Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood, Edge of Tomorrow), Robbie Gee (Snatch, Small Axe), and James Burrows (Fighting with My Family, This Is England) star in the film, which is destined to become a classic in the same vein as Shaun of the Dead, Snatch, and This Is England.
Three Day Millionaire reveals the hopeful spirit of those who live in Grimsby as well as the town’s long and turbulent history as a Northern ex-industrial town searching for a new identity amid a cost-of-living crisis, government schemes, and Brexit woes.
Director Jack Spring
Spring realized he needed to bring this longshot roller coaster to the screen from the second he began perusing the quick moving satire screenplay by Paul Stephenson. Spring has a natural affinity for Grimsby because both his family and his favorite football team are from the town. He insists that every frame of the movie was shot in the tow, where he spent a lot of his childhood.
Spring explained that it is a genuine, unaccustomed “slice” of the UK for American viewers. They’ll see a part of the UK that isn’t typical of London, like in Trainspotting or Snatch. It is a film about a heist that moves quickly, is funny, and makes you feel sad. The characters are all very real, and the soundtrack is amazing.
With his first comedy, Destinations:, Spring became the youngest feature film director in the United Kingdom. After a six-week theatrical run, Amazon Prime, Sky, and Virgin bought Dewsbury. Spring started a business renting inflatable hot tubs at the age of 18 to show investors that he could be trusted with their money. After its release, it was touted as one of the “next big things” for British cinema. He shot the movie the following year. Spring’s second feature film is Three Day Millionaire.
