The first cocktail to commemorate King Charles III’s coronation, the King Charles Cocktail, has been announced by Highclere Castle Gin, an award-winning gin brand inspired by the famous Highclere Castle from Downton Abbey.
King Charles Cocktail
With its exquisite recipe of premium gin and timeless ingredients, the “King Charles Cocktail,” a must-have for any coronation party, is set to captivate mixologists and home cocktail enthusiasts worldwide. The Earl of Carnarvon, owner of Highclere Castle, stated that the coronation is a remarkable acknowledgment of continuity. It is a wonderful idea to enjoy and share the King Charles Cocktail to celebrate His Majesty and lift our spirits.
This innovative but deceptively simple cocktail, made by Highclere Castle Gin and tasted by top chefs and mixologists, combines two British spirits that are favorites of His Majesty the King. It’s uncommon to see gin and Scotch in a cocktail at the same time, which challenges the norm. Highclere Castle Gin, a premium London dry gin made with a blend of botanicals from the renowned Highclere Castle estate, is featured in the King Charles cocktail.
The subtle smokey flavor of the single-malt Scotch whisky adds sophistication and character to the drink. The Highclere Castle Gin and whisky pair well with the aromatic notes of freshly squeezed lemon juice and the sweet flavor of orange curacao, creating a glass of opulent sophistication fit for a king.

The cocktail is served in a custom-made vintage art deco coupe. Highclere Castle Gin suggests their boutique glassmaker of choice, Classique Cadeau. The cocktail’s golden hue shines through the coupe, which is topped with a fragrant rosemary sprig for an earthy touch of the garden. This herb garnish honors His Majesty’s passion and dedication to sustainable gardening, which can be seen at his Highgrove House in Tetbury, England. Lord & Lady Carnarvon also use this method at Highclere Castle.
They are releasing the King Charles Cocktail with some of the finest hotels and restaurants worldwide. It is a unique cocktail that is powerfully appropriate. His idea was to make a cocktail with the intention of making it a classic that people would enjoy and associate with this significant historical event. Adam von Gootkin, co-founder and chief executive officer of Highclere Castle Gin, described it as the ultimate toast to His Majesty’s lifetime commitment and service throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and on the world stage.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) has been selected as Highclere Castle Gin’s official charity beneficiary. With her support, the QCT was sent off in 2018 on Sovereign Elizabeth II’s 92nd birthday. The support of social entrepreneurs is the primary focus of the charity. The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust will receive a donation of one dollar per King Charles Cocktail served from participating restaurants throughout the month of May, with the proceeds going to young leaders and innovators.
