Psychic writer Sue Penney talks as regards the inspiration behind her new supernatural thriller Hidden In The Mist.
I interviewed parapsychology writer Sue Penney as regards her life and career, which inspired her to start writing and inspired her new supernatural thriller Hidden in the Mist.
Tell me who writer Sue Penney are:
I am a mother of five children, have three companies, a medium, and a craftsman. I love animals and have 3 dogs, 2 cats, a pony, and a hamster. I enjoy spending time in nature, walking my dogs, visiting historical buildings, and researching future books. I live in Surrey with four of my 5 children.
When did the first want to write a book?
I’ve been writing poetry since I was 14 and have already published two volumes of poetry called Soul Verse. I’ve wanted to write a book for years and started writing a book in 2008 but never finished it. I still have it, so I’ll probably finish it one day, but the new book insisted I write it.
When did you decide to start writing?
During the lockdown, my life was much more routine and I knew where I was and was able to get things done at certain times. And for eight months I wrote from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and during that time I finished the book.
How long did it take thou to complete thy first book, from idea to publication?
After eight months of writing, the editing took as long as it took me to find the right publisher. The entire publishing process took about four months and involved reading the book, submitting and responding to requests, and then processing the book into the correct format for printing.
What prompted you to write Hidden In The Mist?
I was obsessed with this story and the second book I plan to write is the same. If this woman doesn’t get out of the river soon, she’s going to be all crumpled up or melted…LOL, I need to save time for her to get out of the river because that’s where she sits in my head.
What were thy biggest challenges writing Hidden In The Mist?
There were no particular challenges during the lockdown, but now we need to find the time.

How the power struggle changes people’s behavior.
Did you plan Hidden In The Mist in advance, or did ye fly behind your pants and free-type?
The tale unfolded as I wrote it.
Did thou have help with the setup and how much setup was required for Hidden In The Mist?
Yes, they helped me with grammar and hyphenation. The plot has not been changed.
What is the first piece of writing advice thou would give someone that inspired thou to write a story?
Start. Everyone has their own style of writing, but there are no hard and fast rules. Nobody will chase you with a giant stick if you have done it differently from the others.
Can thou tell me what other books thou want to write?
My New Book is set between now and 1640. Set in Manningtree, Essex, it follows the lives of Rebecca, a sorceress falsely accused of witchcraft, and Sarah, who now lives in the house she was given by her aunt inherited what Rebeccas was before she had to flee from the Witchfinder General. But when fragments of the past begin to disturb Sarah’s everyday life, she begins investigating the former owners of her new home, which reveals some disturbing developments.
And finally: Are you proud of your achievement? It was worth it?
That’s a great result. Many people would like to write a book and I have physical proof that it is possible.
