On YNF Entertainment Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Bandcamp now has Nightingale Vocal Ensemble’s much-anticipated debut studio album, Composition Sped Up, a fully improvised a cappella offering.
Composition Sped Up
On January 18th, the highly anticipated debut album COMPOSITION SPED UP by the critically acclaimed choir Nightingale Vocal Ensemble will be available for purchase on Bandcamp. The album features completely improvised performances by eight Nightingale singers. With each track being inspired by a different piece of poetry or art, the album exemplifies a dynamic form of individual expression.
A line from jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter is used in the album’s title. “Improvisation is just composition sped up,” Wayne explained.
This improvised album continues Nightingale’s trend of performing mostly new music, much of it written by ensemble singers.

Improvisation excites singer and producer Nathan Halbur because it gives each performer more control.
“Instead of relying on the genius of an individual composer, each musician in an improvising ensemble possesses the agency to create the music that they wish to hear, and which is optimized for their own unique instrument,” explained Nathan. “This freedom eliminates the singular vision of an artistic creator, and leaves in its place the potential for absolutely raw expression from every performer.
“Composition is an essential facet of Nightingale’s identity,” Nathan continued. “It felt natural to attempt it—in Shorter’s words—sped up.”
