Juggling the Issues: Living With Asperger’s Syndrome
Kenslow is currently a pianist, college graduate, substitute teacher, and author of the book Juggling the Issues: Living With Asperger’s Syndrome, in which he takes readers inside the life of an Asperger’s sufferer.
Kenslow sheds light on the ways in which certain challenges have affected his day-to-day life by telling a series of personal stories. According to him, his mind works differently, and he has struggled with poor eye contact and social and conversational skills. He explains that while remembering things like the president’s birth, term, and death dates, simple tasks like reading or organizing his thoughts take longer for him; the components that make up the Periodic Table; and the Bible’s books are easier to come by.
Anyone whose life has been impacted by autism spectrum disorder should read Juggling the Issues: Living With Asperger’s Syndrome,. Kenslow’s insights aim to help readers comprehend, inspire, and embrace the gifts that others have to offer the world by putting differences aside.
Matthew Kenslow was born with an autism spectrum disorder that was previously known as Asperger’s syndrome. His life has been an adventure as he has tried to make sense of everything around him, despite being praised and ridiculed. His goal is to share his personal experience of how people with autism interpret the world differently than the general public. He believes he has been given the ability to juggle, play the piano, and recall information about American presidents, geography, science, and math. At elementary schools, he juggles and inspires students to never give up on their passions.
Through Royal Rangers, a program he has participated in since he was 5 years old, he has achieved the Gold Medal of Achievement, which is equivalent to the rank of Eagle Scout. He is now imparting a wide range of skills and knowledge to young people, teaching and mentoring them. He received his Associate of Science in Chemistry from Orange Coast College and his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Vanguard University of Southern California.
He wants to teach middle school math. After teaching Enhanced Mathematics for a semester at his former middle school, Ensign Intermediate School, he recently received his full math credential. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Education at Vanguard University and works as a substitute teacher for the NMUSD. Students frequently refer to him as “the best sub” and beg him to return the following day or to sub for their class soon.
