Dubai is now a true crossroads with residents, workers, and visitors from virtually every nation in the world. According to Paul Burt, a British ex-pat, people often say that it’s the Middle East, so it’s Islam and Arab. Obviously, that is an important part of this society’s foundation, but 85 percent of the population is from other countries. It is completely multiracial. Definitely not monocultural. Because of this, it is also not monoethnic.

The film travels to Nepal, England, Ukraine, Australia, the United States, Bangladesh, and other countries to show how people’s lives in Dubai contrast with those in their home countries.

The film also looks at how well-being science and positive education are becoming more important in schools as students, parents, and teachers try to navigate the dangers of a social media landscape where children now have two lives—one online and one offline.

Fairways to Happiness is a production of Route 201 Media. Douglas Morrione shot, directed and edited the movie. Following his award-winning documentary about cowboy artists from the American West, Everything in the Song is True., is his second film.
